Our Wedding | Less Than One Year To Go

Our Wedding | Less Than One Year To Go Blog Post GraphicI am so excited to say that we are now less than one year to our wedding! Woohoo! In fact, it’s less than 10 months until the big day.

I’ve been meaning to write this post for a while so I’m finally jumping on to give an update of where we are now with the planning and how much we have left to do. It feels like forever since Joel got down on one knee on a rainy Sunday in the Peak District and asked me to marry him.

THE WEDDING PARTY

One of the first things that we did was ask our bridesmaids and groomsmen to be part of our day. We’ve each picked people who mean a lot to both of us, so that’s very special.

THE CHURCH

The bonus of being a Christian is that you can count on your church to hold your wedding ceremony. We’re hoping that the worship band will start the party with a bang! We’re looking forward to getting married in the church that Joel has always been a part of and that was a huge part of my journey in coming to faith.

THE VENUE

Joel and I were quite particular about what we wanted, and I’m glad to say that we got our own way! We’ve taken both sets of parents to see our venue and both said as soon as they got there that they could envision our wedding happening there. It’s a very ‘do it yourself’ kind of venue, but I don’t mind that one bit. I’m looking forward to doing lots of crafts this year!

THE FOOD

We’ve chosen a caterer that has worked at our venue before and a feast that we hope our guests will enjoy!

THE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

Yes! Our wedding photographer, Nikki’s Moments, was recommended to us by an old work colleague of Joel’s. Nikki shot her wedding and we fell in love with her style – perfect for a Summer wedding.

THE GUEST LIST

Without a doubt, this has been the most difficult part of planning our wedding.

THE FLOWERS

Joel’s mum has very kindly offered to do the flowers for our wedding and has recruited a bunch (see what I did there?) of her friends to help. We’re going to need a lot of flowers for our church and venue, and we have every faith that it will look stunning. So far, we’ve made a couple of mood boards and have visited the wholesalers to pick out some of our seasonal favourites.

THE DRESS

Yes! All I’ll say for now is that I found my dress by accident and it was absolutely made for me.

THE BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES

I took a long time to decide what kind of style and colour I wanted, but we are finally there. Again, I actually found the dresses by accident. As soon as I saw them advertised in a wedding magazine, I knew I was going to have my bridesmaids in them!

THE GROOM’S AND GROOMSMEN’S OUTFITS

Joel was waiting for me to choose a colour and now that I have, he can go ahead with choosing the boys’ outfits.

THE ENTERTAINMENT

This part is mostly finalised, but we’re also working on entertainment for the guests throughout the day. Weddings can be long, especially for the guests, so we’re working on keeping ours occupied. Watch this space!

THE CAKE

The best bit. We’ve been wedding cake tasting and we’ve chosen a style and some flavours!

HAIR AND BEAUTY

I’ve spent the whole of the last year telling everyone that I am going to learn how to do my own wedding make up but after the stressful time I had at my friend’s wedding, Joel put his foot down and told me that I need to get someone to do my make up for me. Regrettably, he’s not wrong. I know that I can’t have that kind of stress on my wedding day. I’m going to look for someone to do my make up with my chosen products.

THE RINGS

We’ve booked in with each other to go just after New Year to see what the sales have got. I’m quite certain that I won’t get anything plain or traditional.

SOMEWHERE TO LIVE

Many of you know that Joel and I have chosen not to live together before our wedding. This is largely down to our faith, and we feel it will be special getting married and moving into our own place all at once – but also because we can’t afford to move out just yet! Our wedding will be the start of our life together. We’ve got some saving plans in place but we’ll start looking for somewhere around May next year.

We’ve still got a lot to do, but I think we’re pretty organised with the big things. I’m now looking forward to putting some of the finer details in place! It feels like I’ve been waiting so long for this day to come around! After reading Sophie’s Wedding Week, I’ve decided to hold a wedding week once the wedding is over and we receive our photos to document every part of the wedding!
