Guess what? I wanted to post this on Monday and I didn’t. Then I tried again yesterday. I thought about not posting it at all, but then I thought, screw it, if I want to post about my lovely weekend, in the middle of the week, then I shall. Last weekend was one of the best weekends I’ve had in a long while, so I’m documenting it in a special weekend edition of the happy journal (which I’ve still got commitment issues with). I’ve been feeling a bit down recently but now I feel ready to take on whatever the week brings.
It was our anniversary recently – Joel and I have been together for seven years now! – and had booked in this weekend to spend together. Originally, we were thinking of going adventuring in the Cotswolds but changed our plans at the last minute. I’m so glad we did because it both saved us money and gave way to some really special moments.
A GREAT BREAKFAST
To start the weekend off right, Joel and I had one of my favourite breakfasts. Cue eye roll: poached eggs and avocado on toast. Yum.
VISITING WREST PARK
Since we are members of the English Heritage and Wrest Park is practically on our doorstep, we took a picnic and headed there for the day. Wrest Park is a beautiful French style house with acres and acres of land. We’ve been a few times now and still haven’t walked around all of it. We love it so much that we think we’re going to get our engagement photos shot there in the Spring.
TAKING PHOTOS AND GETTING SOME OF US TOGETHER
Joel likes to practice his photography, and I like to get portrait shots for my blog so we work well together. We took it in turns to take photos of one another, and towards the end of the day, we set up the tripod and got some shots of both of us. It was a bit like when you’re 15 and set up your parents’ tripod and camera with your friends to get some really cringey shots, but I love how they turned out so #sorrynotsorry.
STEAK FROM THE FARM SHOP
Unbeknownst to me, until now, there’s a farm shop in a little village that I drive through quite frequently. On recommendation, we found the shop and purchased some rump steaks and mushrooms for our dinner that evening. It feels great to know that we are supporting a local business, and I’m sure we’ll be back!
COOKING AN AWESOME DINNER
I knew that I was marrying Joel for a reason. On Saturday night we made a starter of mozzarella and tomatoes with balsamic, and for main we had steak and chips with a bottle of red wine. The steaks were absolutely incredible and possibly the best I’ve ever eaten.
IMPROMPTU VISIT TO A LOCAL WEDDING FAIR
We got up too late to get to church, so when I told Joel that our wedding photographer was exhibiting at a local wedding fair, we decided to go instead just to get some more inspiration.
TALKING WEDDING RINGS
One of the stands at the wedding fair was a jewellery company with a large selection of wedding rings. Joel and I had originally planned to go wedding ring shopping first week of January next year, but I wanted to get a feel of some styles available. I’m so glad that we stopped to chat to the guys on the stand because they were so helpful. One man looked at my ring and could tell us exactly where it was from and who the manufacturer was, which completely surprised Joel! I’ve also got a better idea of what kind of ring I like (I may have chosen a style – I was shown a ring that would perfectly compliment my engagement ring and I’m in love) and Joel was able to try on a few rings too. We’ve booked an appointment for a home consultation in February.
SMASHING OUT SOME PHOTOS EDITS
I love moody, faded photography and Autumn is the perfect time of the year for that style. On Saturday, I took some photos of Joel and had a quick go at editing them yesterday. I absolutely love how they turned out! Feeling like I’ve finally found my preferred editing style.
What did you get up to this past weekend? Any plans to look forward to?
